Cheryl Burke says her ex-boyfriend beat her with a belt in front of her parents, who she says didn’t help her.
The “Dancing With the Stars” star detailed her so-called “artifacts” on “Red Table Talk,” where she and Jada Pinkett Smith and Adrienne Banfield-Norris, in addition to a psychologist, discussed the relationship trauma.
“In high school — I’ll never forget it — my best friend for four years beat me with a belt,” Burke, 38, said in an appearance Tuesday on an upcoming episode of Facebook Watch.
“And I had bruises all over my legs,” he continued. “I remember his parents were watching – they didn’t do anything.”
The song writer made it clear to the frightened women, “And it wasn’t like he was hitting me; he was whipping me.”
His story will be broadcast in its entirety on Wednesday.
A traumatic relationship is, according to PsychCentral.com, “the creation of an unhealthy relationship between the victim and the abuser.
Burke celebrated four years of sobriety in August, six months after her divorce from Matthew Lawrence.
“My father died [in March 2018]and my dad was an alcoholic,” she shared on the September 2020 episode of the “LadyGang” podcast. “So I’m either going to crash and burn and take care of myself, or I’m just going to freeze.”
“Diana volunteered to see this and reveal it to everyone…
The dancer explained that he was a person “black or white,” and explained, “That’s just my personality.
She said she realized she wanted to quit drinking at her engagement party with Lawrence in May 2018.
Unfortunately, the family did not go well, and he left it after less than three years.
“There is no easy way to announce that my marriage is over,” Burke told her Instagram followers in February. “Thank you all for the kind words and support – I love you all.”
Through his “Burke in the Game” podcast, the ABC star has helped his fans to overcome the feelings he felt after the split, letting listeners know that even if he was lonely at times, it wasn’t “easy” to meet new people.
Meanwhile, Lawrence, 42, was spotted with TLC singer Chilli in Hawaii in August, but the actor’s rep insisted the pair are just friends.
