Columbus– The Columbus Crew today announced roster decisions following the 2022 Major League Soccer season. The club exercised contract options on eight players, while 15 were already under contract until 2023.
The updated roster is now 23 players for the Black & Gold and is listed alphabetically by position below:
Goalkeepers (4): Evan Bush, Eloy Room, Patrick Schulte, Brady Scott
Defenders (7): Milos Deganek, Mo Farsi, Jonathan Mensah, Steven Moreira, Jake Morris, Will Sands, Josh Williams
Midfielders (10): Arthur, Luis Diaz, Kevin Molino, Alex Matan, Aidan Morris, Darlington Ngbe, Isaiah Parente, Yao Yeboa, Sean Zawadzki, Lucas Zalarayan
Attackers (2): Cocho Hernandez, Jason Russell Rowe

Matan has joined the Romanian team Rapid Bucharest on loan since August. At the end of the loan period, which expires on December 31, Rapid has the option to permanently transfer the methane.
The Crew declined contract options for defenders Jalil Anybaba and Pedro Santos, midfielder James Igbekme and forward Eric Hurtado. The contracts of defender Marlon Hairston and midfielder Derrick Etienne Jr. have expired. The club is currently in additional negotiations with selected players regarding a return in 2023. The deadline to exercise options is November 14th at noon EST.
Anibaba, Etienne Jr., Hairston, Hurtado and Santos will be eligible for MLS free agency. Igbekme’s loan deal expires on December 31, 2022.
Midfielder Perry Kitchen is retiring following a professional career that began when he was selected in the first round (third overall) of the 2011 MLS SuperDraft. Kitchen appeared in over 200 MLS games for DC United, LA Galaxy and Crew, and also spent time in Europe, plying his trade with Heart of Midlothian (Scotland) and Randers FC (Denmark). Born in Indianapolis, Kitchen captained the United States at the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Nigeria and earned five caps for the senior national team.
The MLS trade window opens on Monday, November 7 at noon ET and closes on Wednesday, November 9 at noon ET with the start of the blackout period. During the blackout period, clubs cannot sign or trade players until the end of the expansion draft, which is scheduled to take place on Friday, November 11. November 10.
Free agency is set to open at 1pm ET on Wednesday, November 16th. Eligible players are at least 24 years old in the year the immediately preceding league season ended and have at least five years of MLS service. Thursday, November 17th will be the start of the MLS re-entry process with Phase 1 taking place at 1pm ET and year-end waivers at 5pm ET. The MLS re-entry process ends with Phase 2 on Tuesday, November 22nd at 1pm ET.
