There wasn’t much drama in the first week of the college basketball season, leaving many fans looking forward to more important games, as the schedule didn’t help with the opening week of 2022-23. Duke vs. Kansas: You should know

How is John Shire? Hall of Fame coach Mike Krzyzewski at Duke is big enough that even Shaq might not be able to fill them. But the former Duke star became an assistant and is now the head coach of the Blue Devils It brings with it great expectations. He’s recruited a top-five roster in the sport, led by several five-star freshmen, and a savvy vet in Jeremy Roach to help run the show. Duke is 2-0 so far this season, but it — and by extension, Scheyer — has been largely untested and will be tested Tuesday against Kansas.

KU without itself: Kansas Hall of Fame coach Bill Self was suspended for the first four games of the 2022-23 season as a result of the IARP’s ongoing investigation into potential recruiting improprieties by him, assistant Curtis Townsend and the basketball program. So the big game — which theoretically could have pitted two Hall of Famers against each other in Self and Krzyzewski — loses a little luster on the surface. Assistant coach Norm Roberts is a perfect 2-0 on the season without Self and Townsend leading KU, but this, like Scheyer, is the toughest test he’ll face yet.

Defending the Crown: Kansas has the longest winning streak in Division I men’s college basketball at 13 games after winning its last 11 games to end the 2021-21 season and clinch the national title. This is the 17th time (!) that Kansas has won 10 or more games since Bill Self took over the program.

Duke vs. Kansas prediction, pick

No problem for Duke without Bill Self? that’s mean [Simon Cowell voice] A no from me I really like Kansas in this one. All-American Jalen Wilson looks good, KU’s defense is killer and its flexibility to play big and small could fit Duke. With Duke big man Derrick Lively still working his way back from injury and maybe 100% with the possible absence of five-star freshman Darique Whitehead, who hasn’t played this season after offseason surgery, The spindle is not completely full. The power going into this one suggests it will be close, and it probably will be, but I’m leaning toward Kansas. Prediction: Kansas -1
